Andromeda sarà una versione modulare di Windows 10: molto probabilmente debutterà con il lancio del Surface Phone ma sarà presto consegnata alle società partner. In queste ore si fa un gran parlare di Andromeda OS, nome in codice di di una nuova versione di Windows 10 con cui l'azienda di Redmond proverà a risollevare la testa sul mercato "mobile" dopo l'esperienza fallimentare con Windows Phone e Windows 10 Mobile.

L'idea alla base dello sviluppo di Andromeda OS è quella di realizzare e proporre un sistema modulare, capace di funzionare su qualunque dispositivo. Satya Nadella, CEO di Microsoft, ha nei mesi scorsi confermato che l'azienda non abbandonerà affatto il mercato hardware ma che i suoi futuri smartphone dovranno essere qualcosa di davvero innovativo e rompere decisamente con il passato: Microsoft realizzerà nuovi smartphone: saranno ibridi e innovativi. Si è parlato di un dispositivo Microsoft dotato di uno schermo pieghevole con supporto per Windows Ink, capace di fungere sia da tablet che da smartphone. Intorno a tale prodotto, che potrebbe chiamarsi Surface Phone, aleggia proprio Andromeda. L'obiettivo però è quello di proporre Andromeda OS, quindi una versione di Windows 10 davvero modulare, anche e soprattutto ai produttori partner di Microsoft. La nuova shell di Windows si adatterà automaticamente a qualunque genere di device: PC, notebook, convertibili, smartphone, dispositivi ripiegabili su loro stessi e addirittura oggetti smart indossabili. Al momento non c'è ancora una data ufficiale per il lancio di Andromeda OS ma la comparsa di una dizione aggiuntiva tra le piattaforme supportate dalle varie applicazioni nel Microsoft Store sembra indicare che non manca ormai molto. Nel riquadro Disponibile su che comprare sul Microsoft Store, oltre alle abituali voci come PC, Mobile, HoloLens, Hub e così via è comparsa anche un misterioso riferimento 8828080, parte del numero telefonico aziendale del colosso di Redmond. Trattasi evidentemente di un segnaposto che secondo molti sarebbe proprio riconducibile ad Andromeda OS. La voce 8828080 compare non solo nelle app Microsoft ma anche in molte applicazioni e giochi di terze parti, a conferma che gli sviluppatori sono già stati fattivamente coinvolti nel progetto.
